Practical skills

20190927_140319.jpg

This image shows the different types of shading techniques. This was a good practise and a good reference.

We were introduced to 3 different types of drawings:

  • Line art

  • Continuous

  • Scribble

and an artist to represent each of the drawing type.

I did some sketches with each type as a practise, and particularly like the continuous line drawings. I like the concept of the drawings and it seems challenging but with very interesting outcome.

On this page there are some time drawings. Each drawing had different time period of time to be drawn. I wrote some notes on the same page.

I think the drawings are quite good considering the time I had to draw each of them. I found out that the more time I had didn't necessarily mean that the drawing will be better. It is an important factor but it is more important to be focused. A good example for that is the 8sec drawing and the 2 min one. The 2 min one was the second drawing to be drawn, and the 8sec one was the last one. I think that the 8sec one looks much more detailed and proportionate than the 2 min one.

I think this was a good practice exercise to help me concentrate when I'm not focused.

For this lesson we had to bring an object or two so we could live drawings. I had a candle and a pair of sunglasses. The first drawing was with the candle and natural lightning. I think it looks good, I like how I did the shadow ( I used an eraser to make the little more brighter parts in the shadow).

The second drawing was of the sunglasses and was made with forced lighting. Obviously the shadow is much more prominent, and dark.

Life Drawings

For this lesson we did some life drawings. The models were some of my classmates. We had 10 minutes for each drawingI did 3 sketches with a pencil and 2 with chalk.

I liked drawing with chalk, but it was a bit messy. The chalk went everywhere and sometimes I would put my hand on the drawing by an accident and the chalk would go everywhere.

I think that even tough I had 10 minutes for each drawing, It is quite obvious that some have more details and have been payed more attention than others. I consider this to a matter of concentration. Usually when I'm concentrated on a drawing, I can do pretty well for less time.

Our task was to fill in an entire A4 page with small sketches of Hands, lips, eyes, noses and ears. Since I've practiced on close ups, before It wasn't too hard for me to do the sketches.

This is the first version of the storyboard. These were all drawn on sticky papers, that could be moved around.

During one of the drawings lessons we had to do a stop motion animation. Me and my friend paired up to complete the task. We made two origamis, one of a dolphin and one of a swan. We planned to make them fight and we used a remote controller that the teacher gave us. We made the swan use it and freeze the dolphin and then throw it at it.
