At this point the media I use the most is 2D as I feel more comfortable with it. So for this project I plan to add little of 3D to whatever I am doing. Also me and my friend decided to work as a team for this project. We decided to split the work between us, so for now our plan is for me to do character/s and she will do the background. We decided so as I have more practice with the human figure and have practice concept art in my free time before, and she volunteered to do the background as she felt more confident with it than with characters.

10 Reasons Why I choose to work on 2D or 3D

I want to start with 2D and then convert it to 3D to show the different layers because as I said I am more confident with it. As for my skills, I think that they are appropriate for what I am planning to do but not good enough for how I imagine the final outcome should look like, but this is why I choose something little over my possibility border -- so I can push it further.

I found my inspiration is concept art. I was always into quirky things like futuristic art, ancient myths and steampunk, so I feel like concept art fuels my hunger for the weirdness.

To solve the 2D, 3D and time problem I will start in 2D and then show the different layers in 3D dimension. As for the time I think that I will use the '10, 20, 30' theme for the project. I am not sure at this point but the length of the animation is going to be either 10, 20 or 30 sec, as 30 sec was the max duration.

For my side of the project I will either use adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to create the character and when it is time to animate I will probably use Adobe Animate.

To show my ideas I usually either sketch or write about the environment or the character. As for environment I am weaker at both writing and sketching, than for characters, so this means that I should practice on that.
Can you foresee any technical issues?
There may be problems with the softwares or rendering which happened with me during the last project.

As far as know the resources I need (sketch book, computer, graphic tablet and ect.) are available. So even if there is something wrong with the softwares I am using or the computer itself, I can use my sketchbook.

Are you sure what you of what you want to produce?
I want to design and animate a 2D character/s and then convert it to 3D.

Proposal
For this project me and my friend decided to design a character, that is situated in a fantasy background. My idea for the character is based on angels to some extent, as well as birds or just any fantastical creature with feathery wings. This leads me to the point where I will have to make a research on bird anatomy, especially in the area of the wings, and also look at the different shapes of the wings and feathers.
The sketch we did is a basic version of the final outcome and can change during the process, but right now it acts as a base to start from. Also I did a separate sketch with a example design for my character.

I plan to use the 10, 20, 30 theme by showing my character in 3 different times of their life. So I want to have my character when they are 10 yrs. old, then 20yrs, and lastly 30yrs. I personally think this is a good way of incorporating the theme.

My friend is planning to create a background where the islands float. I think that the character and the background will compliment each other as both bits have very light and free nature.

Regarding the presentation of our work, me and my friend were no sure about what software we should use, as we had two options to choose from -

-
Maya, or;
-
After Effects.

At the end we decided to work in after effects when it came to presentation. There are few reasons for the decision we made. First we both agreed we felt more comfortable with the after effects software as we had more experience with it, since we used it for the last project. Second we decided that after effects will give us more freedom regarding animation.

Sketchbook work
Here are some photos of what I did in my sketchbook. I looked at some other work, analysed it, explained what I liked in them and why and for some works I said what can I use from them in my own work.

What is concept art/design?
Concept art is a form of illustration, sketch or drawing that is used to convey and express an idea in most of the media entertainment like films and video games. It shows an idea that can be used in a final outcome.

While I was looking at some concept arts I really liked the angel one because it is very detailed and beautifully shaded. Also I was very impressed by the level of realism and the smoothly lending colours.

I looked at the artist and only found his name was Vlad Marica and that he lives Quebec, Canada. He is a Concept artist/designer.
I checked some of his works on ArtStation, which is were I found him. All of his works share the same level of realism and details. There were different works, mostly characters, varying from humans to demonic creatures.

I think that his works are useful, as they are character designs that makes them a source of ideas and inspiration to develop my drawing skills further, especially the angel one, as my own character is winged.
